Flirty emojis are the digital equivalent of a playful touch on the arm or a knowing glance across a room. They signal interest, humor, and that spark of connection that makes conversations feel alive. But here’s the thing: emojis can mean completely different things depending on who’s sending them, the context, and—let’s be honest—the generation of the person reading them.
If you’re wondering whether that wink emoji means what you think it means, or if you’re trying to figure out how to add a little flirtation to your own messages, you’re in the right place. This glossary breaks down 59 of the most commonly flirty emojis and what they actually mean in the context of attraction, playfulness, and connection.

Quick coaching note: A lot of people struggle with emoji anxiety—wondering if they’re sending the right signals or misinterpreting what someone else is trying to say. The truth is, the emoji itself matters way less than the overall context of your conversation. The best flirting happens when you’re genuine, when you match the vibe the other person is setting, and when you’re actually interested in them as a person. Emojis are just the seasoning on top. Want to learn more about how to flirt over text? We’ve got a full guide on that.
What Are Flirty Emojis?
Flirty emojis are emotional signals sent through text. They’re the way we add tone, warmth, and intention to a message that might otherwise feel flat or unclear. Some are obvious (the kiss emoji 💋), while others are subtle—a wink here, a smirk there. They work best when they feel natural to the conversation, not forced.
A flirty emoji does a few things: it breaks the ice, it shows playfulness, it suggests confidence, and it can soften a message that might otherwise seem too direct. They’re especially useful when you’re exploring playful flirting with someone, because they signal that you’re not taking things too seriously while still making your interest clear.
⛔️ A Word Of Caution About Flirty Emojis
Before we dive into the list, let’s be real: sending flirty emojis to someone who hasn’t indicated interest back can come across as presumptuous. Emojis work best as responses—when someone’s already been warm toward you, or when you’re building on existing rapport. They’re not a substitute for actual connection.
Coaching insight: Some people use flirty emojis defensively, as a way to gauge interest without putting themselves out there emotionally. If that’s you, I get it. But the most confident, attractive thing you can do is be direct about your interest while still being respectful of their boundaries. Emojis can amplify genuine interest—they can’t create it from nothing.
Emojis are the easy part. The harder part is what to actually say next. If you want to know where your flirting and conversation skills stand, take our free 60-second quiz.
What Emojis Are Flirty?
😉 The Classic Wink
This is probably the most straightforward flirty emoji out there. It says, “I’m in on the joke, and I like you.” A wink implies playfulness, confidence, and a little bit of “I know something you know.” It’s great for responses to jokes, teasing, or when you’re being a little bit cheeky. The wink rarely comes across as creepy because it’s so clearly playful.
👀 Looking Your Way
The eyes emoji is subtly suggestive. It says, “I’m watching, I’m interested, and I’m definitely noticing you.” Sometimes it’s flirty in a fun way (when someone sends it after you say something witty), and sometimes it’s more intense. Context is everything here. In group texts, it’s usually just humor. In a one-on-one conversation with someone you’re into? It’s more loaded.
😈 That Devilish Grin
There’s something playfully mischievous about the smirking devil emoji. It suggests you’re up to no good—or at least thinking something fun and slightly inappropriate. This one works when you’ve already built some rapport with someone and you’re being playfully flirty rather than genuinely threatening. It’s the emoji equivalent of a raised eyebrow.
🥺 The Puppy Dog Eyes
This emoji can go a couple of ways. Sometimes it’s genuinely sweet—a vulnerable, “I like you and I’m a little nervous about it” energy. Other times it’s manipulative, almost childish. When used right, it can be endearing. When overused, it comes across as trying too hard. The people who pull off the puppy dog eyes emoji are usually the ones who use it sparingly and with genuine sweetness behind it.
😏 The Smirk
The smirking face is flirty in an almost sarcastic way. It’s the emoji version of raising one eyebrow and saying, “Really?” or “I know what you’re up to.” There’s confidence in a smirk. It says, “I’m amused, I’m a little bit above this, and I still like you.” Use it when you’re being playfully sarcastic with someone.
😜 The Tongue-Out Tease
This one’s all about playfulness and immaturity in the best way. It’s silly, it’s fun, and it completely removes any pretense of seriousness. If someone sends you this, they’re saying, “I like you, but I’m not overthinking it—let’s just have fun.” It’s often used after a joke or a flirty comment to make sure you know they’re joking.
🤗 The Warm Hug
While not explicitly flirty, the hug emoji can definitely have flirty undertones. It’s affectionate and warm. When someone you like sends this after a conversation, they’re saying, “I enjoy being close to you, even if it’s just over text.” It’s sweet without being too intense.
🍑 The Peach Emoji (Yes, It’s That Obvious)
Let’s not dance around this: the peach emoji is almost universally understood to be flirty and suggestive. It refers to… well, the shape of a peach and what that shape resembles. From our coaching experience, we’ve noticed that if someone’s sending you peach emojis, they’re either flirting pretty openly or they’re trying to be playfully suggestive without directly saying something explicit. It’s a staple of flirty texting.
🥂 Cheers to Us
The champagne emoji suggests celebration, good times, and togetherness. When someone sends this in a flirty context, they’re saying, “Let’s celebrate this moment between us” or “Here’s to us getting to know each other.” It’s elegant and implies some level of sophistication.
💋 The Kiss
Direct, unambiguous, and almost impossible to misinterpret. The kiss emoji is one of the boldest flirty emojis you can send. It’s a declaration of affection or attraction. Some people use it playfully among friends, but between two people with romantic potential? It’s definitely a signal. Use this one only if you’re ready to make your interest clear.
😍 Heart Eyes (The Big One)
The heart-eyes emoji is love at first sight, or at least serious attraction. It says, “You’re amazing and I’m smitten.” This is one of the most powerful flirty emojis because it’s so explicit about positive feelings. When someone sends you this, they’re putting themselves out there emotionally. It’s sweet, it’s clear, and it’s hard to hide behind. In our coaching practice, we see a lot of people hesitating to send this emoji because it feels vulnerable. But that vulnerability is exactly what makes real connection happen.
🔥 Fire (The Temperature Check)
The fire emoji can mean you’re hot, your message is great, the conversation is heating up, or all of the above. It’s versatile and it’s flirty. Whether someone’s saying “You’re attractive” or “This conversation is amazing,” the fire emoji adds heat to the interaction. It’s energetic and positive.
🌹 The Rose
Classic, romantic, timeless. The rose emoji is for when you want to be straightforwardly sweet and romantic. It’s less playful than some of the other options, and more “I’m genuinely interested in you” energy. Red roses are romantic, so the emoji carries that weight with it.
😉😘 The Combination (Wink + Kiss)
When someone sends both of these together, they’re amplifying the playfulness and the flirtation. It’s a one-two punch of “I like you AND I’m being fun about it.” This combo is great when you want to flirt but you don’t want to be too serious.
💬 The Chat Bubble
The speech bubble emoji is more subtle, but in a flirty conversation, it can mean, “Let’s keep talking” or “I want to hear more from you.” It’s an invitation to continue the conversation, which implies interest. It works especially well when someone’s been giving you short answers and suddenly they send this.
💌 The Love Letter
The envelope with a heart is deliberately romantic and old-fashioned in the sweetest way. It suggests correspondence, connection, and something worth preserving. When someone sends this, they’re saying, “This conversation matters to me.” It’s thoughtful and tender.
💃 Dancing (Her Side)
The dancing woman emoji suggests celebration, joy, and fun. When used flirty, it says, “You make me happy and I want to celebrate you.” It’s energetic and positive. From our coaching perspective, this is the kind of emoji that says, “I’m having genuine fun with you, not just going through the motions.”
🕺 Dancing (His Side)
Same vibe as the dancing woman—it’s about celebrating and having fun together. These dance emojis are great for conveying enthusiasm and positive energy. They suggest that being around this person (or messaging them) makes you want to celebrate.

It’s intimate without being aggressive. Use it when you want to show affection and interest, but in a sweet way rather than a bold way.
A Final Coaching Thought on Context: Here’s what we’ve learned from years of coaching people through the dating and flirting process: the emoji matters less than what comes before and after it. A fire emoji after a genuinely engaging conversation is amazing. A fire emoji sent to someone who’s been giving you one-word answers? That’s going to land differently. Real flirting is about reading the room and matching the energy someone’s giving you. Emojis amplify what’s already there—they’re not a substitute for genuine interest and respect.
We practice all of this — texting, flirting in person, reading the signals you’re missing — live every week at the Jaunty Gym.
The goal is connection. Use these emojis to add warmth, playfulness, and clarity to your genuine interest in someone. If you’re overthinking which emoji to send, you might be focusing on the wrong thing. Focus on being interesting, being kind, and being honest about what you want. The right emoji will follow naturally.
